Top 10
Spookiest
DIE-Cast

1) Munsters Koach
Johnny Lightning - Frightning Lightning

Best 1:64 scale die-cast EVER.  One of the coolest cars EVER.  ERTL's 1:18 scale version is pretty amazing too.

2) Munsters Drag-U-La
Johnny Lightning - Frightning Lightning

A dragster made from a COFFIN???  How CREEPY is that???  The episode of The Munsters featuring the Koach and the Drag-U-La is one of my favorites.

3) Christine
ERTL American Muscle

Okay, so this isn't OFFICIALLY Christine, but it's so much better than Johnny Lightning's version. If you haven't seen the movie recently, check it out.  I bought the DVD recently and the movie still holds up.  Good stuff.

4) The Car
ERTL American Muscle

The Car is another movie I recently picked up on DVD, thinking it might come across as dated.  But I really enjoyed it.  This modified Lincoln is another George Barris masterpiece, and ERTL really did it justice in 1:18 scale.

5) Ghostbusters Ecto-1A
Johnny Lightning - Hollywood on Wheels 4

Though this version of the Ecto-1A is a re-release, it's vanishing from toy store shelves.  The only major difference from the Frightning Lightning version is the wheels.  I can't wait to get ERTL's 1:18 scale version of the Ecto-1 from the FIRST film.

6) The Mystery Machine
Johnny Lightning - Hollywood on Wheels 3

Okay, so the Mystery Machine isn't spooky to LOOK at, but think of all the adventures it's been on!  Scooby Doo and the gang have seen it all, vampires, ghosts, werewolves....you name it!  (Okay, so most of them were some psycho in a rubber mask).

7) Elvira's Macabre Mobile
Johnny Lightning - Frightning Lightning

Featured in the film Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, the Macabre Mobile is another George Barris creation.  It's actually a customized '58 Thunderbird.  JL produced this car in 5 different colors.

8) Diamonds are Forever Hearse
Johnny Lightning - 007 40th Anniversary

Okay, so Diamonds are Forever isn't exactly a spooky movie, but you have to admit that hearses are creepy.

9) Matchbox Character Cars

I never thought I'd put ANY Matchbox TV or movie property on a Top Ten list, (they're not exactly known for their accuracy).  But if you're looking for spooky die-cast, you can't beat cars that include figures of Frankenstein, Wolfman, Freddy, Jason and Leatherface.

10) Blair Witch Project 2 Van
Johnny Lightning

Like most people, I've never seen this film.  I saw the FIRST film and I wasn't very impressed.  But my buddy Dennis says this van is an incredibly accurate depiction of the van seen in the sequel.

Readers' Suggestions

Reader Metro Privratsky suggested the Batmobile.  He wrote in to say:

"I know that when I think of Halloween, I think of bats. So naturally, I think of Batman's Batmobile. It's dark, mysterious, stored in a cave, and is driven by a man dressed like a bat. That's kinda spooky in itself :)"

Mark Sanders wrote in with another suggestion, though this one isn't in stores just yet:  ERTL's Death Mobile from the film Animal House.

"Another spooky car coming out :) Only in 1:18 I think."
