January 2005

Each month I go through the most recent e-mails I've received and pick a few to share with you.  I try to personally respond to every e-mail I receive, but I also post a few here in my Q&A column.

Here is the 1:18th Scale K.I.T.T. ENJOY!!
Josh

Thanks for sharing pics Josh.  I can't wait to find this one for my own collection.  I haven't seen it in stores yet.

You may want to add the "7-UPS"  to your (Top 10 Car Chase Movies) list, at least in the runnerup category.

Trivia information:
There is a stunt driver named Bill Hickmann, who was the main stunt driver in "Bullitt", "7-UPS", and "The French Connection".  Thought you might be interested.

Steven

Thanks for the heads-up Steven.  Never heard of this one, but the IMDB describes the 1973 film as:

New York City cops wage a war against assorted hoods and criminals after one of their own is brutally killed by a hoodlum. Seven-Ups refers to the minimum jail time each of the crooks will have to spend if they are caught.

I'll have to check it out.

Hi
I'm trying to find out the name of an old movie but all I remember is the name Munz Root Beer.  The movie had an old Willys in it.  I think it was about a 1940.  I hope you can help me with this as I would like to find the movie.
             thanks  Joseph Boudreau

I'm coming up empty Joseph.  If anyone out there knows the answer please e-mail me and I will forward the information.

Hello Joe,
I came across your site and I really like it.  It has alot of great information about movie cars.  I also wanted to tell you about my site which you may be interested in.  My site was launched in November 2004 and is called www.MovieCarMania.com.  I specialize in carrying collectible diecast cars that have been featured in the movies and on TV.  If you get a chance please check it out and let me know what you think.  My selection of cars is limited, but I plan to expand as time goes on.  Additionally, if you ever add a link page to your site, I would appreciate having my site added.

If you are ever searching for a hard to find car, please give me a chance to find it for you.

Thanks.
Rodney Wren

Good luck with your business Rodney.

This is what I received for a gift from my brother this Christmas. This was totally unexpected, and I was very happy to get it. It's the Kennedy Limo, which he got through the Fairfield Mint.

I was very surprised at how detailed this car is. ---- Very Cool!!!

Thanks, and Have a Happy New Year Joe!

Metro P.

What a great brother!  Thanks for the pics Metro.  I didn't receive any die-cast for Christmas, but my friends and family never know what to get me, because they think I already have it!  I hope you have a happy New Year too.

Can the Hot Wheels redline Firebird  Original 67 or 69  be used for Darren Stevens car on Bewitched?   Blue on blue or blue on white (not sure) as I only saw the car once on the show.   This is my favorite TV show car, except for The Munsters Koach hot rod.  I would love to see a 1/18 or 1/24 of the firebird; as the car was on the show; with Darren and Samantha's picture on the box. I would love to buy a real car just like it too.  A dream car to drive.
The collection of 1/18 cars you show of yours, is missing my son's favorite; ERTL's The Fast and The Furious Black Charger in the first movie.  Also missing is the ERTL's James Dean merc.
I would love to see the Pink Panther Hot Rod done in 1/18 by ERTL as a Joy Ride.  Get Smart and Beverly Hillbillies in 1/18 would be great too.  Thanks For a great web site.  I thought I was the only one who liked movie cars. I sold all my hot wheels almost 10,000 cars and 170 redlines.  Now I collect only 1/18 or 1/25 scale movie cars that I REALLY like. I have only about 11 cars now .
Remember the black and white  T.V. show  Highway Patrol starring Broadrick Crawford always chasing someone in his cop car?  Do you know what that beheamoth was? Some 59 cad or something like that.  I would love one of those done by Joy Ride/ERTL.

   Hey Thanks again.
   DAVID CRAWFORD.

Thanks for writing David.  It's always fun to find out what other collectors are interested in.  I don't recall Darren's every-day car on Bewitched, but I'd love to see the cutom car that was featured in one episode (pictured above).  I found this photo at:

http://www.showbustersstarsandcars.com/bewitched.html

Dinky did a version of the custom Pink Panther car (which I believe is based on a real car).  I'd like to see this cool car revisited as well.

As for cars that are missing from my 1:18 collection, I have limited space in my apartment, so I'm really choosy about which cars I add to my collection.  The cars you mentioned are great, and when I have more room, I may add them.

Hello Joe,

This is my first time writing to you, as well as my first foray into die-cast collecting.  After I found your site and dug through it, I WAS HOOKED!  I'm now on a mission to collect Movie/TV die-cast.  I was just wondering if there was any publication/magazine that caters to die-cast collectors like us.  Thanks for your time and Happy Holidays,

Dave Bowden                                                                                                                                  Indianapolis,  IN

It's great to know my website is bringing new collectors into this little area of die-cast collecting.  I'm glad I could help.  As for publications, nothing focuses on TV and movie cars that I'm aware of, though I'm hoping to change that as I'm looking into publishing the Hollywood Die-Cast price guide/resource magazine.  For now, your best bets are Toy Cars & Models and Lee's Toy Review, which has a section dedicated to die-cast cars.

And finally, I asked visitors of Hollywood Die-Cast.com to let me know if the cars featured in the Hot Wheels Bruce Wayne 3-pack (above) were featured in the films or on television.  Here are some of the responses I got:

I was told that the Bruce Wayne collection cars were from the movie Batman and Robin when they were talking in Bruce's garage.  These were supposedly his cars in the background.  I did not confirm, but am merely offering one persons explanation.

Regards,
Craig

In regards to the Hotwheels Bruce Wayne collection. I believe those cars were shown in a scene in Batman Forever that took place in Wayne's garage. Dick Grayson is looking at the cars and Wayne makes a deal with him that he can stay and work on a motorcycle. I know some of those cars were in that scene.  I'd have to check again to see if all of them were there.

Richard

Thanks for the info guys.  I don't own those two movies on DVD, so I haven't gotten around to verifying it.  I wouldn't mind adding Batman Forever to my DVD collection, but I don't know if I can sit through Batman & Robin again.  Ugh.

Your e-mails really make my day.  Please keep them coming.  Click on the e-mail link in the left column and I'll do my best to find the answer for you.
