October 2005
Each month I go through the most recent e-mails I've
received and pick a few to share with you. I try to personally respond
to every e-mail I receive, but I also post a few here in my Q&A column.

I was just reading through you web page and noticed the
article about unofficial tv and movie cars and thought you'd like to know of
a few unofficial tv/movie cars in my collection. First off, I've just
bought a white 1/18 scale 1975 Jaguar XJS made by Yat Ming which is
identical to the one used in The Return of the Saint tv series.
Also by Yat Ming there is a model of a black 1/18 scale 1948 Ford
convertible which looks almost identical to Biff's car in Back to the
Future, apart from the interior (which can be painted), a bonnet badge
and indicators. And lastly, I bought two Maisto 1/18 scale BMW
R1100RT-P California Highway Patrol bikes which are exactly the same as the
ones used in the CHiPs '99 movie. I've attached some picture to
see what you think.
Thanks, Ian
Cool stuff, Ian. If anyone else spots "unofficial" TV
or movie die-cast cars, send me pics and info.

Hiya. Andy here.
I've been using drills to drill out
the rivets in the car undercarriage to separate the car body from
chassis. Is there an easier way?
Thnx, Andy
Hi Andy. When I occasionally customize a die-cast car, I use a
Dremmel to drill out rivets. What's nice about the Dremmel is that
you can change the bits to cut, sand, buff and, of course, drill.

You have the most coolest cars and you are so lucky in life!
I wish I had cars from Austin Powers and Charlie's
Angels, etc! I guess I will have to go to a place
called Wal-Mart a lot more times than I thought!
AR
Yeah, my collection IS pretty cool!
Unfortunately, you won't find a lot of these cars at major retail stores
anymore, like Wal*Mart. For die-cast cars from Austin Powers or
Charlie's Angels, you'll have to look for a hobby store that sells
die-cast cars in your area. Of course, there's always eBay too, but
you'll have to pay shipping costs. You can, however, find newer cars
at retail stores right now, like cars from Batman Begins, Herbie Fully
Loaded and The Dukes of Hazzard.

Hi Joe,
I've been doing some searching on the
Internet, and I think that the red Cadillac (that I customized as Big Enos
Burdette's car), is also the same type of car that was used in the short
lived 2004 NBC TV series Hawaii. Can you, or anyone out there
verify this? I managed to find a few photos of this car, though not very
good.
Well, Metro, this is the first time I've ever heard of this
TV series. If anyone has any info on the make & model of the car used
in the series, please e-mail
me the info and I'll post it here.
Hi
I am looking for a die-cast Monte Carlo (1987). My father has
one for summer only and I would love to get a die-cast for him for
Christmas. His is a dark color, I believe dark cherry (almost a black
if you are not in the sun). But I would take any color I could get.
I believe he has 1:24 scale but it could be 1:18, I’m not positive.
Could you help me locate one?
Thanks, Teresa
Unfortunately, Teresa, my specialty is TV and movie cars. I would
recommend eBay or visiting a hobby store near you. I did a search
for 1987 Monte Carlo on eBay. Not a lot came up. I tried
searching under Completed Listings and had a little more success.

HERE for an example.
Though I seriously doubt that spaceship (above left) resembles anything
seen on the TV show, I admit it would be a nice addition to anyone's TV
collection. Galgo also released another ALF vehicle (above right).
Both have been added to the Hollywood Die-Cast gallery.
Hi Joe.
Some Questions about your site. Do you collect only 1/64 Cars and
make fotos for the site or 1/25. too? I have some Knight Rider
cars in my collection and very rare, bigger things, too. Do you
want to see? Have you got an ICQ Number??
LarsHi Lars. Personally, I only collect 1:64 and 1:18
scales. I have a few cars in other scales, but they're not the
focus of my collection. Although a lot of the photos you see on
this site are of cars in my personal collection, most of them you see in
the galleries feature cars that belong to my buddy Dennis, photos that
were found online, and photos that were sent to me by fellow collectors.

My brother and I enjoyed the film Seabiscuit, both for
itself and for the classic 20's-30's racing cars and roadsters shown
prominently in it. I can't believe no one has moved to reproduce
these gorgeous cars.
I think collectors would go for these.
Rob
I haven't seen Seabiscuit yet, though I've been
meaning to rent it. As for the marketability of die-cast cars from
this film, I think people usually associate horses with Seabiscuit
and not "horsepower.". I seriously doubt any die-cast manufacturer
would take a chance on this license.
Hi again Joe,
I had some left-over farm animals from my last project, so I decided
to put them to use too. I replaced the existing horns on the hood of
ERTL's Boss Hogg Cadillac with the horns from a toy goat. I glued them
on with my hot glue gun.
And, I figured if I'm going to do that, I may as well put new tires
and wheels on right away too. They're not perfect, but they look a lot
better than the "standard" one's that were on there. Here's a pic
of the finished product:
Thanks, Metro

I really enjoy seeing custom TV & movie die-cast cars.
Keep the photos coming.
Your e-mails really make my day. Please keep them coming.
Click on the e-mail link in the left column and I'll do my best to find
the answer for you.
